One subway has already been filled in, and now the underpasses below St George's Road, London Road and Newington Causeway have also been shut to pedestrians.

Three subways – below New Kent Road, Elephant & Castle link road and between the shopping centre and the roundabout – remain open for the time being.

Fences have been put up around the roundabout to discourage pedestrians from crossing the road at ground level.

New surface-level pedestrian crossings will not open until early 2016.

The new two-way traffic layout to replace the gyratory system is due to be introduced in December this year.
