Vinopolis to shut wine tour for multimillion pound refurbishment

The Vinopolis wine attraction has announced that it is closing its wine tour later this year as part of a multimillion pound refurbishment project.

The attraction opened in 1999 in arches at the southern end of the Cannon Street railway bridge. The wine tour will reopen in the autumn.

"During the refurbishment, we can confirm that not only are the restaurants remaining open but we are still offering a wide selection of wine tasting experiences and events – such as our successful wine courses and masterclasses under the guidance of our resident wine experts, Tom Forrest and Melanie Reeve," says managing director Lucy Haines.

"We have seven stunning event spaces on site, including the Great Halls, which remain open for private and corporate hire."

Meanwhile work is nearing completion on the Vinopolis Yard development off Park Street. A new Italian restaurant and bakery, Del Mercato, is due to open later this year.

Plans for a wine-focused market in the yard were withdrawn after objections from Borough Market and local residents.
