Westminster City Council is to relocate its dustcart depot from its current site in Mandela Way to a new location in the borough of Lewisham.

Westminster to relocate dustcart depot from Mandela Way

Westminster City Council has been parking a fleet of dustcarts at the former bus depot in Mandela Way for more than a year – even though it has not received planning permission for change of use of the site.

Southwark's director of planning told Westminster that it was "inappropriate" to use the Mandela Way site to park rubbish trucks.

Now the city council's cabinet member for finance, property and regeneration – Knightsbridge councillor Rachael Robathan – is to be asked to approve the relocation of the waste vehicle depot to Landmann Way in Lewisham.

The new site is near the New Den football stadium, so Westminster dustcarts will continue to ply their way through Elephant & Castle and along the Old Kent Road to reach their depot.
