Christine Elliott has been named as the new chair of the charity which runs Borough Market, in succession to Donald Hyslop.

Christine Elliott succeeds Donald Hyslop who served as trustee for 11 years and chair since 2011, helping to steer the market through the aftermath of the July 2017 terrorist attack.

"I am honoured and energised by the chance to support the Borough Market community and to curate a board of such wide ranging talents," said Christine Elliott.

"We are implementing and developing innovative plans to ensure that Borough Market continues to be the best produce market in the world.

"It will be my privilege to work with all concerned to ensure that the market remains authentic, exciting, sustainable and at the very heart of this great city."

Donald Hyslop said: "It has been a privilege to have served my two terms as a trustee and the chair of Borough Market for the last 11 years.

"I've been fortunate and excited to work in one of London's most iconic institutions; a remarkable place with creative, intelligent and committed traders and staff. We have faced, and risen to, many challenges over the years.

"The many things we do here at Borough: in terms of our community, London and globally, is more important now than ever before, in an increasingly inward-looking world.

"The market has a reputation for 'the best' and the affection people feel for Borough is something to be nurtured and built on, keeping the independent spirit and thinking which makes it different from anywhere else in the world."

Donald remains a key figure in Bankside life though his roles at Tate and Better Bankside.
