Transport for London is proposing to extend the hours of the westbound bus lanes on Old Kent Road and New Kent Road - through the Bricklayers Arms junction - to operate 24 hours a day.

TfL plans 24-hour bus lane on Old Kent Road and New Kent Road

The westbound bus lanes between East Street and Elephant & Castle currently operate Monday to Saturday 7am to 7pm but TfL proposes to prohibit general motor traffic from the lanes all day, every day.

As part of the same package of changes, TfL wants to reconfigure the layout of the southern side of the Bricklayers Arms junction.

"In line with the Mayor's Healthy Streets approach to make streets healthier, safer and more welcoming we will be realigning the roundabout to create a bus lane on the roundabout slip road which can be used by both buses and cyclists," says TfL.

"This will aim to make the road more attractive to cyclists and improve journey times for bus services, reducing the reliance on private cars."

A public consultation closes on Friday 18 January.
